Check your Makeup Labels!

We suggest checking the labels thoroughly when shopping for makeup as a soon-to-be mum and avoiding these ingredients:

  • Parabens
  • Phthalates
  • Fragrance/parfum
  • Triclosan
  • Retinoids
  • Bisphenol A (BPA)
  • Diethyl phthalate (DEP)
  • Alcohol

Good Ingredients to Look For

For a healthier and glowy skin, we suggest looking for these ingredients:

  • Antioxidants such as pomegranate, red tea and white tea.
  • Algae extract, as it protects against oxidative damage.
  • Aloe vera to soothe irritated skin.
  • Safe-for-pregnancy mineral sunscreen with SPF 40, that is effective against UVA and UVB rays.

Sensitive and Acne Prone Skin During Pregnancy

While some soon-to-be mums tend to have silky and glowy skin, some women become more prone to acne once they get pregnant. This could be due to their unpredictable hormones or lack of sleep, and not due to the gender of your baby.

If you’ve noticed that your skin has become more sensitive and acne prone during pregnancy, here are some tips to help you deal with it:

  • Go for non-comedogenic products: non-comedogenic products are designed to not clog your pores, which is really important, since having clogged pores is one of the main causes of acne.
You’ll immediately feel the difference between non-comedogenic makeup products and standard ones, as they feel much more lightweight!

  • Use oil-free products: we suggest switching to oil-free products and to avoid jojoba, avocado and coconut oil at all cost.

  • Tea tree oil: a key ingredient to look for is tea tree oil, known to be an effective ingredient against acne. Remember to never use it by itself: it could do more harm than good!

  • Lightweight makeup: consider using more lightweight products, they will not only make your skin healthier but they will also make your makeup look less cakey. Plus, your skin will feel less tired at the end of your long day!
