Choosing the Right Hotel or Bed & Breakfast for Baby

Having a baby also means having to choose a hotel or bed & breakfast more wisely. Here is what to look for when booking an accommodation while travelling with your baby!

how to find a hotel for baby

First of all, we recommend booking a hotel room or bed & breakfast that has 24/7 security. While most hotels have somebody at their reception hall at all times, not all of them have trained guards 24/7. Make sure to check, because your baby’s safety comes first!

Then we suggest asking the hotel or bed & breakfast if it is possible to check in before the usual 2 PM check in time. After a long and tiring trip, both you and your baby will want to freshen up and maybe lay down for a bit.

Unfortunately, that’s not always possible, so an alternative might be to book the hotel room for the night before. Of course, it means having to pay more, but it also means that you can arrive anytime you want, which is a huge perk especially if you’re travelling with a baby!

COVID-19 update: to avoid crowded lounges, consider checking in digitally to your hotel or b&b, this will better protect your family from dangerous germs and viruses.

Tips on Choosing the Right Location

When booking for a hotel or b&b room, we highly recommend checking that there are supermarkets and pharmacies nearby, to avoid being caught unprepared.

If that is not an option, make sure to check that you have all of baby’s essentials with you. For a thorough list of things to bring with you when travelling with your baby, read our article.

We also suggest straying away from noisy areas, such as college campuses, bars, pubs and clubs. Baby’s sleep is sacred! It can already take a while for them to get used to the new environment, so try to make it as easy as possible for them to get a good night’s sleep.

Checking that the Space is Suitable for Baby

Making sure that the hotel room’s space is suitable for babies is key! The first thing you’ll want to check is whether the space is big enough for your baby’s equipment, such as the stroller and crib.

Speaking of equipment, you’ll have to actually bring it to the room first. So we recommend choosing a hotel that is easy to get in and out, and that has elevators. Having to walk up the stairs for multiple floors can be quite frustrating after a long and tiring day of sightseeing and adventures!

If there are no elevators, ask the hotel staff if there’s a space on the ground floor where you could leave your baby’s stroller. But don’t just walk up the stairs holding your baby without any protection! We suggest using a baby carrier so it’s more safe for your baby and hassle-free for Mommy and Daddy.

In booking a b&b room, it’s best to avoid those with stairs and no baby gates to protect your baby. It could be too risky for baby’s safety!

Finally, if your baby is on formula, we highly recommend booking a room in a hotel with a restaurant or 24/7 room service. That way you’re able to heat baby’s milk whenever they get hungry!
