10 Hacks and Tips for Travelling with Your Baby

Every newbie parent wants their baby’s first trip to go as smoothly and safely as possible.

Here are some tips that we’ve compiled to make it much less stressful for you newbie Mommies and Daddies:

1. Book a Room Near Supermarkets and Pharmacies

You may know by now how unpredictable babies can be, so booking a room near a supermarket and pharmacy is a huge plus.

If that’s not possible, make sure to check your “Things to bring” list twice (just like Santa), to be sure that you have everything you’ll need.

Don’t know where to start with that list? Read our article Travelling with Your Baby for the First Time for an ultimate guide for baby’s first trip!

2. Write Down Local Emergency Numbers

Speaking of being prepared for everything, our next tip is to write down the local emergency numbers and the nearest hospitals.

You’ll also want to look up information on local pediatricians and bring a copy of your baby’s medical records, just in case.

3. Book for the Night Before

Finding a hotel that will allow you to check in earlier than the usual 2 PM would be ideal, but that’s not always possible. If that’s the case, try booking your room for the night before. This way you’ll be able to come in earlier to change your baby and give them a quick wash.

4. Ask for a Water Boiler

When booking for a room or bed & breakfast, we suggest that you ask for a water boiler in your room. This way you’ll be able to sterilize your baby’s pacifier and cutlery easily after a long day.

You can also bring a non-bulky one from home, or simply ask for boiling water at the hotel’s restaurant. Just remember to keep it where your baby can’t reach it, it can be very dangerous!

5. Bring a Baby Carrier

We recommend bringing a baby carrier with you, to have your baby even closer to you when traveling.

But if you prefer strollers, consider getting a lightweight and foldable one. If you are able to fold it by using only one hand, that’s even better!

6. Always Bring a Blanket for Baby

No matter the weather, we suggest always bringing a blanket for your baby. It can still get windy at night, even in the summer.

Plus, anybody who’s ever taken a plane flight knows how chilly it can get on the airplane as well as in the airport.

7. Baby’s Favourite Toy or Pacifier

It can be hard to keep your baby entertained during a long trip, bringing baby’s favourite toy is a great solution to that. Store it in a practical travel bag and bring it wherever!

Your baby will be in places they’ve never seen before, surrounded by strangers, so having their favourite toys with them could give them more comfort.

Our Travel Bags are also ideal to pack baby’s luggage: you can organize their clothes based on categories or use them to separate clean clothing from the dirty laundry.

Another item that you can use to keep your baby distracted is their favourite pacifier. To avoid losing it during your trip, consider clipping it to your baby’s clothes with a pacifier clip!

8. Consider Packing Light

If you want to pack light, consider doing the laundry at your bed & breakfast or using the hotel’s laundry service. Just remember to remind them not to use chlorine-based detergents!

Remember to also get informed about the hotel’s turnaround time, and to avoid using the laundry service the day before you check out.

9. Bring Healthy Snacks

We recommend always having healthy snacks for baby with you, as there might not be a lot of healthy or baby-friendly options at service stations or airports.

10. Leave Some Space in the Back Seat

Leave the back seats as empty as possible, so that you have space to change your baby on-the-go, instead of having to use unsanitary public restrooms.

Having uncluttery back seats is also safer for your baby, as it also means that less things could hit your baby in case of an accident.
